Our Gardens –

Maple Tree Courtyard

About this garden

This courtyard needed to perform a few roles.  It’s an integral part of this modern house and visible from the living area of the house; the connection of the garden to the house needed to be seamless and the only outdoor space belonging to this site.  So for many reasons the balance of this garden, and getting it right were critical.  A huge Maple was craned into the raised planter and Buxus spheres mass planted beneath it, made sculptural by the decomposed granite base.  From inside the house perfectly neat mini Mondo grass looks more like artificial lawn and covers the courtyard floor.  Evergreen Magnolias form a screen against the boundary wall and a Birch tree in one corner gives the terrace green scale.  On the limestone terrace, Boston Ivy naturally covers the wall above the floating stainless steel BBQ.
